Ohgods, where to begin commenting on a page like this? I should probably break it down into sections of useless banter, then people can choose all the bits they don't care about...
Oh, and for those few of you who oddly read the Author Comment before reading the comic - yeah, spoiler alert, probably wanna read the page first. And on that note, I may begin my inane babble which I'm sure you'll all mostly ignore.
-THE NEW BAR-
So, some of you may be wondering, why the new bar? Well... simply enough the old one was being... well, used. By everyone. That old bar was every bar in every comic - but I didn't want that. I'm running a comic about a specific bar, and that's hard whenever anyone looks at it and goes 'oh, that's the bar background'. I wanted people to say 'oh, that's The Leafy Bar'.
Therefore, I had someone who makes scratch backgrounds do this for me upon request. There's a few bits which aren't custom (Primarily, the view outside the windows) but beyond that it's scratch.
Unfortunately, Funky, the guy who made the background for me, disappeared before he had chance to make an outside, thus the shambles I cobbled together for that.
So yeah, hope you like seeing the new 'Leafy Bar' as opposed to the old 'Generic Bar Background'.
Oh - before I forget and leave it on that note, yes, you did all totally call it on Maximillion being behind it. Whilst I did think this was probably obvious, it was seemingly even more obvious than how obvious I felt it was. Well done on getting that.
Godmodern, the new character introduced in this page, probably immediately struck a wrong chord with most people. I was actually hoping to introduce him a little earlier, to make the sudden spying nature of him seem more surprising, however, with everything else going off, I only really managed to introduce him now.
Even so, I hope that the fact he turned traitor still surprised some people - I did drop a hint here and there on the page (primarily, if you think about it, most things that Gmod seems to do in response to Maximillion actually seem to help him in some form or other), but tried to make them subtle enough that you wouldn't realise he was in alliance with the Outcast Mercenaries.
On that note, some of you may be wondering WHY I made him a member of the Outcasts? I mean, if you read the current Outcast Mercenaries comic, it should be noticable that he's not a member (Unless something's changed since I last checked). The truth is, I've had this planned for quite a while, since back when Outcast Mercenaries was an author comic - at which point, Godmodern WAS a member.
On that note...
I'm curious how many of you realised you'd be seeing these guys again. If you don't remember them, they last appeared from pages 87 to 96, being quite the nuissance in the bar...
That is, unless you count Xavier's off-panel appearance in page 150, the one which got a fair number of people curious as to who the speaker was. Well, now you know, and you've probably put together in your mind exactly what and who they're talking about.
The bar has certainly made some enemies in it's time... and not all of them are happy to fade into obscurity after one punch in the face.
Speaking of punches to the face...
Fun fact for you all, though it may not look like it, Ze's big speech to Maximillion is actually over 10% of the spoken script for this entire page.
This was obviously a big moment for the character... he found out that Shelia didn't love him, smacked Maximillion in the face, and proceeded to monologue like no character in Bar'd has ever monologue'd before. I'd like to say he somewhat 'took a level in badass', though I wrote the script, so I may be somewhat biased here.
Unfortunately, this will be the last time we get to see Ze as he currently is - Ze's owner has given him something of a character overhaul... when he appears again, he'll look completely different... and act completely different, due to a personality overhaul. I'll be honest, I prefer current Ze personality-wise to new Ze, but I ain't his owner, so it's not my place to say really. Needless to say though, the next Ze you see will be a very different Ze indeed.
Lastly I'm gonna talk about probably the most major (and yet most blatantly obvious) plot point here, the fact Shelia is 'all gooey and warm inside' for Vas. I do realise how much of an obvious choice it is for her to have a crush on - hell, if I didn't, Leo wouldn't be as busy pointing it out as he is.
I actually mentioned a while back in a 'Fun Fact' that I'd recieved very few pieces of information on Shelia before writing her - one of these pieces of information was that she fancied Vas, and it's taken this long to mention it directly.
As I say, it was pretty obvious as it was, only made more obvious by the rare hint - for example, Shelia's thing for muscles. Despite this obviousness though, I still feel finally getting it out and stated is kind of a big thing. So there we go, Shelia loves Vas. No big surprise, but hopefully something of a big deal.
What? Not every comics 'big deal' can be Mr. McNaughtyface trying to end the world again.
Lastly, the details which everyone seems to pine after;
Time It Took To Make: A Month (Would've been less if not for Uni and other stuff to deal with)
Number Of Panels: 200 exactly
Dimensions (Pixels): 671 x 15934
Dimensions (CM): 17.76 x 421.65
File Size: 2.48MB
Hope you enjoyed it all~
Oh, and before I forget... quite a lot of you may've tried to sneak-peek 200 and found something... rather unusual instead. Credit for that goes to Tsurugi, you can find it on the Extras Page now if you're curious to see it again~
This is definately my favourite page of all. And Shelia confessing both surprised me and made me happy. I hate it when comics hint one thing and fly the other way.
Also, Ze has definatly becomes one of my more favoured characters in this comic. +1 Lv. Badass.
This must've taken forever, Dregan. Great, amazing show. *claps*
As for the defy physics thing, um, is it the way the backs of the benches actually widen as they go back, when they should shrink (due to spriting, I'm sure)? Or the fact they all go off into the distance the exact same way instead of to one/two set points? (Otherwise, I couldn't spot anything, and besides, I take this kinda stuff with a grain of salt, anyway.)
I didn't find Shelia x Vas obvious. Honestly I thought it was her boss. God, if I weren't so sick it'd make me vomit, I'd be laughing my head off right now! That was undoubtably the BEST moment in the entire comic. Second would actually be Ze punching Maximillion in the face. Not for the humor, but for the drama. I have a thing for dramatic comics and that one moment from the punch to the rant is enough drama for the entire comic.
