The Mother of Bar'd

So! Recentally I had an interesting question in the comments section which I sorta neglected to answer at the time. The question was from one '1337F0X', so, uh, sorry for not responding to you sooner?
Either way, he asked me how many other comics sorta share a continuity/city with Bar'd - noting my tendency to drop references to other comics and characters belonging to them. Which is a fair question, buuut one I have some difficulty answering.
You see, before moving to Smackjeeves I came from a more... forum-based background? Forums where the RP section and comic section were both very active and very inter-linked. Since characters interacted RP-after-RP, character relations and developments became well-established. This also meant that any comics made with those characters on the site... well, they were all based within the same Universe. There were the odd 'alt-universe' comics but that's what they were... explicitally 'alternate universe', whilst all the main comics just served to further build the same world. The forums were like our own miniature marvel or DC universes effectively.
Moving away from forums, I never really got over that logic when creating comics. The idea that if someone offered me a cameo of 'Zippy The Hamhog', that it would actually be a completely different Zippy The Hamhog to the twenty other comics Zippy the Hamhog was in... that just seemed foreign to me. Zippy the Hamhog was Zippy the Hamhog in my mind, whether he be wandering around in the Bamboo Armonic kNight's Guild, joining up with the Outcast Mercenaries, or settling into the bar and growing a great pair of honkable mass-pockets.
As such, when I first wrote the comic, things like setting and such were vague. The city the bar was in was just 'a city', whilst Vas was just from 'the East'. It was as specific as I got - to allow it to be ANY city. It could be the city in an author comic, or your comic, or one of my other comics. It could be anywhere, and thus, would technically slot right in with any canon without really disturbing it.
Of course, as time has gone on and I've developed more, I have narrowed a few things down. The name of the City, some of the locations in the world. Still, I like to keep things fairly open - I like the idea of involving people in my big organic world, not strapping them down to specific rules I've set in place or being caught up if our canons 'don't mesh'.
So basically, when you ask what other comics are specifically in the same universe as Bar'd? I dunno, go ask other authors if they can't their comics to be part of the same Universe or not, because as far as I'm concerned, nearly any comic could be sharing a Universe with me. I know there are a few which are explicitally in the same Universe; Ankojin, Breaking News, Panda Pastry - to name just a few. But beyond that, what else is involved? Whatever wants to be. Go nuts people!
Just... don't blow up Trinus or anything. I need that.

"The first word I shall teach you... will be 'butt'."

Plot Twist is in the same Universe. Spoilers.

Huah... Long and treacherous though the path to friendly redemption may be, I hope that Shelia and Vas make it through together. ;v;
Also, making Balance in Trinus and blowing it up. You can't stop me-*shot*

Awwwww :)

I retroactively sucked MUTE in to the same canon as Bar'd.

Syogren , March 16th, 2015, 12:38 pm

Huh. Interesting...yeah, that's kinda how I thought it was supposed to work, even now. All these alternate universes and stuff are so confusing.

@The Magnificant Z: Wait, what? How?

Exerkol , March 16th, 2015, 1:15 pm

@Syogren: With quite a few characters that have appeared in {MUTE} have also appeared in Bar'd, it is highly likely there is an overlap in canon. Trinus is that vague at times, that anything can be pulled into that city.
